BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Langston, Abbott Pitching Well

Share

Whether he starts the first game of the Angels’ season or the second, left-hander Mark Langston will consider it his opening day.

“I don’t ever look at it that I’m the No. 2 or 3 pitcher,” he said. “I don’t put much emphasis on that. If you do, you’re going to pitch like a No. 3 guy.”

Langston led the Angels’ staff last season with 19 victories.

Langston and Jim Abbott, the candidates to start the season opener April 7, pitched equally well Friday in the Angels’ exhibition opener. Each threw three scoreless innings in a 3-1 victory over the San Diego Padres at Desert Sun Stadium in Mesa, Ariz.
