If you find chocolate to be sinfully...

If you find chocolate to be sinfully delicious, then today is going to be sheer purgatory at El Camino College.

Today is El Camino’s ninth annual Chocolate Sunday, where a $20 tax-deductible donation to the El Camino College Foundation will get you in the door and give you access to all the chocolate you can eat.

The donations will go to five campus groups: the Special Resource Center, which serves students with physical and learning disabilities; Alpha Gamma Sigma, the campus honorary society recognizing academic achievement; “Yes, I Can,” a scholarship program; Project Success, a program that matches mentors with students, and the Alumni Assn. Donations will also contribute to Food Preparation Scholarships for students preparing for careers in the food industry.

About 30 groups or organizations--including restaurants, bakeries, several campus groups and a few bands--are contributing door prizes, entertainment and, of course, the chocolate to feed the 400 to 500 people organizers expect.

The event begins at 2 p.m. at the El Camino College Activities Center and lasts until 5 p.m., a perfect time for a between-meal snack or two--or three.

In addition to feasting on vast amounts of chocolate concoctions, activities will include a raffle for various door prizes, such as a two-night stay at the Century City Marriott. Also offered will be several gift certificates and dinners for two at various restaurants as well as--what else?--boxes of chocolates. Several bands will perform, giving chocolate-lovers the opportunity to dance off some calories.

And, in an adjacent room, organizers will present a showing of the film “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” just to get everyone in the right mood.
