ANAHEIM — An electronic tracking device in a bag of money stolen from a Builder’s Emporium here Sunday night led to the arrest of two suspects who were tracked by police helicopters into Los Angeles County.
Two gunmen reportedly tied up four employees at the Builder’s Emporium at 3420 Lincoln Ave. and robbed the business about 7:45 p.m., Anaheim Police Sgt. Richard Buchholz said. None of the employees were injured.
The tracking device allowed an Anaheim helicopter pilot and eventually another pilot in Los Angeles to zero in on the robbers’ car as it took law enforcement on a 20-minute freeway chase on the Artesia Freeway into Compton, where the arrests were made, authorities said.
Several thousand dollars was recovered, and both men were taken into custody without incident after officers surrounded an apartment complex.
“We were literally on top of the situation,” said Los Angeles Sheriff’s Lt. James Valdez.
