Bowing to South County’s growth and the formation of several new cities there in recent years, the 22-year-old South Orange County Chamber of Commerce has split itself into an affiliation of five local organizations.

The South Orange County Chambers of Commerce will remain the regional administrative organization, President Robert Lay said.

The local groups are the Aliso Viejo, Laguna Hills, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo and Rancho Santa Margarita chambers of commerce.

A business that had been a member of the regional chamber now becomes a member of all five local chambers and can designate one of them as its home chamber.

The division enables businesses “to pinpoint their promotion and networking” and to increase their visibility to the various city and county government agencies in South County, Lay said.

He said that each chamber has its own board of directors and that the boards send representatives to the regional chamber to set regional policy.
