A woman, who told federal agents that she overheard Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies plotting to kill a Lynwood man, pleaded guilty Monday to making a false statement to the FBI.

Anietra Haley, who faces a possible six-month prison sentence under federal sentencing guidelines, also agreed to cooperate with investigators conducting a grand jury probe of the incident, said Assistant U.S. Atty. David Schindler.

In her FBI interviews, Haley said she was working as a cadet at the Lynwood substation in December, 1990, and overheard sheriff’s deputies plotting to kill Lloyd Polk shortly before Polk was shot outside his home. A plaintiff in a civil rights lawsuit against Lynwood deputies, Polk died after the drive-by shooting. No arrests have been made in the case.

In pleading guilty, Haley admitted that she never heard deputies plotting Polk’s death and said she was neither employed by the Sheriff’s Department nor inside the Lynwood station at any time in December, 1990, Schindler said.
