It’s Pit Bull’s <i> Owner</i> Who Disgraces Breed

There are seven comments I wish to make about this self-appointed cat exterminator:

I’m quite tired of the courts and such a large segment of the public treating cats so lightly. The loss involved with the killing of any pet is human; it is not just the anguish experienced by the dying animal, it is the grief of the owner as well.

Beyond the investment of time and money that goes into raising a 2-week-old, sick, wild kitten to adulthood, consider the bonding between the animal and the owner. My wife and I have cats, one of which was raised from age 3 or 4 weeks. This cat sees us as other cats, and there exists a unique bond with this animal compared to that which we feel for the others. Killing such a pet may not reach the magnitude of torturing a human offspring to death in front of the parent, but the process is still the same, and the trauma is still great.

Therefore, there should be a civil suit for the most wanton intentional infliction of emotional distress, to the tune of a six-digit figure.

Bearing in mind that this was an act against a human, not just a cat, let’s not forget the criminal act here. The sadist did trespass on the owner’s property. Aside from the fact that he knew what he was doing (other cats are missing too; this fellow is going after owners as well as animals), this modus operandi suggests that the killer is not only a sadist but a halfway intelligent sadist.
