HAWTHORNE : Replacement Sworn In for Absentee City Clerk
- Share via
Former Inglewood Councilman Richard L. Mansfield was sworn in as Hawthorne’s new city clerk Monday night, less than three weeks after Patrick E. Keller resigned from the post after it was publicly revealed that he has lived in Hawaii since 1987.
The Hawthorne City Council considered the applications of 17 people before voting 3-2 to appoint Mansfield, 57, to fill out Keller’s term, which expires in November of 1993. The part-time position pays $600 per month.
Mansfield, a retired manager for AT&T;, was one of 17 people who applied for the job. He has lived in Hawthorne since 1978, he said.
The council had considered filling the post by holding an election in November, but decided against that option to save money.
