SEAL BEACH : City Votes to Conduct Beach Erosion Study

Share

An updated study of the city’s shoreline will give officials new direction in their efforts to ward off erosion.

The City Council this week voted to conduct the $8,500 study, which will be conducted by Moffatt & Nichol of Long Beach, the same engineering firm that provided the city with similar studies in 1984 and 1985, City Manager Jerry L. Bankston said.

According to city documents, the study will look at the feasibility of constructing a wave run-up wall or an artificial reef along the east beach or extending the existing groin that runs along the northern side of the city pier. All three measures would act as wave buffers for the city’s beaches and would slow the erosion process considerably, said Dennis Jue, city engineer.
