Two men face bank robbery charges after allegedly leading police on a 30-mile chase that ended when a Los Alamitos police officer shot and wounded one suspect in Los Angeles County, authorities said.

Robert McKinn, 40, was treated for gunshot wounds at Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina after a confrontation Tuesday with Los Alamitos police officers and Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies in Bassett, an unincorporated area near the City of Industry, Sheriff’s Deputy Ron Weber said.

McKinn was later taken to USC County Medical Center, according to the Sheriff’s Department. His condition was not known.

A second suspect, Stan Medina, 32, of Ontario, was treated for minor injuries at Queen of the Valley. He had jumped out of the suspects’ car right in front of a moving Los Alamitos police vehicle, Weber said.

Medina was being held without bail in Orange County Jail in Santa Ana on suspicion of bank robbery and evading a peace officer.

The Home Bank on Pine Avenue reported a robbery about 1:55 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said. Los Alamitos officers gave chase after seeing the suspects’ car going north on the San Gabriel River Freeway just south of the Artesia Freeway.

They were joined by a helicopter unit from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The pursuit ended when the two men abandoned their car in the 200 block of South Collwood Avenue in Bassett.

McKinn ran into a residential yard and was cornered, Weber said. A Los Alamitos officer, whose name was not released, thought he saw something in McKinn’s right hand, the deputy said.

“The officer, believing the object might have been a gun and the suspect about to shoot him, fired several shots at McKinn and wounded him,” Weber said.
