Student’s Speech on Hitler

Share

As a Jew, I was glad to read how receptive the Westlake Elementary School was in conveying the atrocities that occurred during the Hitler regime (March 5). However, if it were not for the little boy who chose to give an oratorical biography of Adolf Hitler, how many students would not have become aware of the genocide that took place?

I think it is wonderful that Renee Firestone spoke at the school, elaborated on the boy’s oratory, and gave her own account of what she lived through.

I am alarmed that Supt. William R. Seaver will limit all future oratorical contests to those historical figures that made a positive contribution to society only. We must all remember the good and bad that history holds, in order to keep history from repeating the genocide that happened in the past. Perhaps a better approach for Seaver is to allow all future oratorical contestants to give a concise review of what has happened in the past, and how in the future we as a society and people do not allow such atrocities to be committed again.
