Police were searching Monday night for a 15-year-old boy who reportedly escaped from a home for emotionally disturbed adolescents in Kearny Mesa, authorities said.

The teen-ager was last seen running toward the Kearny Mesa Park and Recreation Center about 7:30 p.m. after breaking out the windows of several parked cars, San Diego Police Officer Frank Addington said. The boy was described as dangerous to others and to himself, Addington said.

The boy was a resident of the Vista San Diego Center, a private residential treatment center, according to supervisors at the facility and the adjacent San Diego Center for Children. The supervisors asked not to be named and provided no details about how the boy got away from the treatment center in the 3000 block of Armstrong Street.
