Bradbury : City Joins Runoff Program
The City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously, but with a mild verbal protest, to join a mandatory state program regulating pollution of storm water and urban runoff.
The plan is coordinated by the county Department of Public Works. Bradbury and 37 other cities in the San Gabriel and San Fernando valleys must begin participation July 1 in a three-year plan of the Regional Water Quality Control Board.
Costs for Bradbury will be minimal because virtually all flood basins, channels and storm drains in the city are property of the Los Angeles County Flood Control District.
Even so, Mayor John H. Richards and the council were skeptical about whether the project will help reduce pollution. Richards said of the plan, “It is just more bureaucracy.”
