Ella Bonny Wins Pace Series Final
Ella Bonny left no doubt she meant business in the $22,550 Garden Grove pacing series final Thursday night at Los Alamitos Race Course.
Not showing a lot of gate speed in her three races in the United States, the New Zealand bred, driven by Ross Croghan, left quickly, and despite starting from the outside post in the seven horse field, gained the lead entering the first turn.
Ella Bonny controlled the race, setting fractions of :28 2/5, :58 2/5 and 1:27 4/5 before opening up and winning by 5 1/4 lengths in 1:56 flat. It was the third victory in four starts since Ella Bonny came to the United States.
Berry Vance finished second with Ella Bonny’s entrymate, Whimsically, coming on strong to take third. The entry, sent off the 4-5 favorite, returned $3.60.
