SIMI VALLEY : Suspect Is Arrested in Fatal Shooting

Share

Police arrested a man Friday in connection with a Simi Valley slaying that occurred at least two years ago.

Roberto Benavides was arrested about 7 a.m. and questioned by detectives for most of the day, said Simi Valley Police Lt. Neal Rein. Benavides was expected to be booked Friday evening in Ventura County Jail, Rein said.

Rein said he did not know what led investigators to connect Benavides with the shooting of a man whose skeletal remains were found about a month ago in a Simi Valley ravine near the 400 block of Tierra Rejada Road.

The victim has not been identified and an autopsy showed that he died at least two years ago from a gunshot wound to the head.

Coroner’s investigators have determined that the victim was white or Latino, 20 to 40 years old, and 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall. He had extensive dental work, including a bridge with a false upper right middle tooth, police said.
