Don’t Rebuild RV Resort

Share

The League of Women Voters of Ventura County believes the Feb. 12 flooding of the Ventura Beach RV Resort, near the mouth of the Ventura River, has created the need to take another look at the park and its conditional-use permit.

When the RV park was proposed in 1985, the league had the following concerns:

* A number of permanent buildings would be built in the park, which is in a flood plain, and long-term residents may be encouraged.

* There would be no way to mitigate degradation of the sensitive habitat along the Ventura River and the estuary at its mouth. These problems would be intensified with the density that was to be allowed.

If the owner wishes to rebuild the park, the League of Women Voters urges the Ventura City Council to closely evaluate the issues before any approval is granted.
