GARDEN GROVE : 6 Arrested at Scene of Home Invasion

Six teen-agers who police said staged a home invasion robbery were arrested Thursday after a victim managed to climb out a bedroom window and notify police.

The robbery was the city’s 10th home invasion of the year, but one of the few times that the suspects were immediately arrested, said Garden Grove police Detective John Enriquez.

“Most of the time the suspects have had sufficient time to flee,” he said. “In this case, we were on the scene immediately.”

Sometime after 9 p.m., three or four of the Vietnamese teen-agers wielding handguns forced their way into a one-story home in a cul-de-sac in the 13400 block of Elizabeth Place, Enriquez said.

At home were a Vietnamese couple in their 60s and their son, whose names were not released. The wife and son were held at gunpoint for a few minutes while the teen-agers took a small amount of cash, jewelry and a video cassette recorder, Enriquez said.

“We don’t know why they were targeted,” Enriquez said.

The husband, who was in a bedroom at the time, heard the commotion and quietly climbed out a window. He called police from a neighbor’s house at 9:38 p.m.

An officer responding to the call saw the teen-agers, who police believe are gang members, pull away from the home in a white Honda, Enriquez said. As he approached the car, he allegedly saw them throw two handguns out the window. Two other handguns were later found in the car.

Arrested and charged with armed robbery were Du Hoang Do, 19, of Huntington Beach; Lai Van Nguyen, 18, of Westminster; Thi Nguyen Vo, 19, of Midway City; Tung Hong Ngo, 18, of Fountain Valley, and two 17-year-olds who were not identified because of their age.

The four adults are being held in Orange County Jail on $50,000 bail, and the two minors are in Juvenile Hall.
