SOUTH-CENTRAL L.A. : Father Won’t Be Charged in Girl’s Fatal Shooting
- Share via
Prosecutors have decided not to file charges against a South-Central Los Angeles man whose 4-year-old daughter was killed in an accidental shooting at home.
The 4-year-old girl was shot March 11 by her 6-year-old sister who found her father’s loaded rifle and accidentally fired it. Wayne Dailey was facing possible prosecution because of a new state law that makes it a crime to keep a loaded weapon at home within reach of children.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Norm Shapiro said Monday that prosecutors did not believe that Dailey was grossly negligent in storing the loaded weapon because the rifle had been hidden behind a couch and only became accessible after a teen-age sister moved the couch to clean.
