Four candidates are vying for two seats on the Lomita City Council in the April 14 municipal election. The top two vote-getters will be seated for four-year terms.
Charles Belba
Age: 58
Occupation: incumbent council member; computer coordinator.
Key issues: wants to hire a consultant to examine the cost of pumping and treating water from the west basin aquifer; favors positive incentives to conserve water by giving low water users credit on their bills.
Harold S. (Hal) Croyts
Age: 71
Occupation: incumbent council member; owner of a computer systems business.
Key issues: keeping crime and graffiti out of the city; provide more low-income housing for seniors and the handicapped; continue to lobby for senior programs and activities.
George Green
Age: 27
Occupation: computerized receiving clerk
Key issues: preserve zoning for single-family homes; opposes rezoning of Pacific Coast Highway in Lomita; would like the city’s schools to break away from the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Lawson Pedigo
Age: 56
Occupation: self-employed property manager
Key Issues: update the city’s General Plan; end water rationing; supports term limits for city, county and state offices; favors less prohibitive zoning on Pacific Coast Highway.
