Georgia Girl, 12, Rescued by CHP
A 12-year-old girl kidnaped by a neighbor from her Georgia home last month was rescued from her alleged abductor Friday when a California Highway Patrol officer stopped the car in Ventura for an outstanding warrant, police said.
CHP Officer Chris Day stopped the car at 4 p.m. at Seaward Avenue and Harbor Boulevard, where he arrested James L. Cornelius, 26, police said.
Cornelius, who did not harm the girl, was kept at the Ventura County jail awaiting extradition on a Georgia warrant, police said.
The girl was placed with the county Public Social Services Agency, which will send her home to her parents in Douglas County, Ga., police said.
