MINNEAPOLIS — City officials have agreed to pay $3.4 million to settle a lawsuit over pollution of the Mississippi River.
The U.S. District Court lawsuit filed by a citizens’ group said operators of the city water treatment plant pumped lime, sludge and heavy metals into the river for at least five years.
The City Council agreed to pay $3 million to upgrade the plant, $260,000 for cleanup grants and $200,000 in fines and court costs.
