Guy Forget and Henri Leconte rescued France, rallying from a two-set deficit to beat Jakob Hlasek and Marc Rosset in doubles, 4-6, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, cutting Switzerland’s lead to 2-1 in their Davis Cup World Group quarterfinal match.
Sweden beat Australia, 3-0, with Stefan Edberg and Anders Jarryd winning the doubles over John Fitzgerald and Todd Woodbridge, 6-3, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
In the only other World Group quarterfinal, Brazil tied Italy at one match each as Jaime Oncins rallied to defeat Paolo Cane in a six-hour, rain-delayed match, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.
