SAN DIEGO : Highway Collision Kills 7-Year-Old Boy
A 7-year-old Chula Vista boy was killed Sunday afternoon when his baby-sitter’s car was hit by another car being driven the wrong way on the highway, the California Highway Patrol said.
Matthew Lawrence Richardson was being driven by his sitter, Kevin Ledwith, 22, to meet his mother at work at the Del Taco restaurant at 32nd Street Naval Station. The youngster and his baby-sitter, who also works at Del Taco, were head south on Interstate 15 when the collision occurred at Ocean View Boulevard
The boy was thrown from the car and was pronounced dead at 4:06 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said.
Clementine Howard, 82, of the 1000 block of 4th Avenue in Chula Vista, was driving the wrong way on the highway, officials said. Neither Howard nor Ledwith were injured in the crash.
Authorities are investigating.
