ANTELOPE VALLEY : County to Study Telecommuting

Share

Los Angeles County will study the feasibility of setting up a satellite telecommunications work center in the Antelope Valley for county workers.

A motion proposed by Supervisor Mike Antonovich on Tuesday said such a center would reduce congestion on the clogged highways from the high desert to the downtown Civic Center. Similar centers already exist in San Bernardino and Riverside counties, Antonovich said, and in Washington state, Hawaii and Japan.

Already, more than 2,000 Los Angeles County employees--who must obtain individual permission from their superiors--can work on home computers, under a home-based telecommuting program that began in 1988.

The county chief administrative officer was instructed to develop a plan for an Antelope Valley center and report back to the board in three months.
