Lineup for KCRW Thornberry Tribute

Pianist Gerald Wiggins and saxophonist Bob Cooper are two of the Los Angeles-based jazz artists who will perform on “A Tribute to Will Thornberry,” airing tonight at 7, on KCRW (89.9 FM).

The program, hosted by Tom Schnabel, celebrates the career of veteran jazz broadcaster Thornberry, 59, who was heard on KLON-FM and KCRW, and who is seriously ill in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Westwood.

The first two hours of the tribute will feature performances recorded at an affair honoring Thornberry, which was held at the Jazz Bakery in Culver City on March 6. During the final hour, Schnabel will program album cuts and will interview former associates of Thornberry, among them announcers Chuck Niles and Sleepy Stein.
