PREP SOFTBALL : El Toro and Los Alamitos Scoreless in 13

Share

For once, the number 13 was neither lucky nor unlucky; it was simply enough.

After 13 scoreless innings Thursday, the El Toro and Los Alamitos softball coaches decided to call it a day.

“We could have played 94 innings and I don’t think we would have scored,” El Toro Coach Jim Daugherty said. “Besides, some girls are going to a soccer banquet, we have an hour bus ride home and dinner is on the table.”

El Toro (6-4-1) threatened once in the top of the third inning, loading the bases with one out, but the next two batters struck out and grounded out.

Los Alamitos (5-4-1) had two chances to score in the ninth. Renee Bergeron tripled with one out and was thrown out at the plate trying to score on Carolyn Wilson’s grounder to short. Wilson advanced to third on Sheri Bergeron’s single and an error by left fielder Korrie Allen. But Amanda Peterson struck out, ending the inning.

Los Alamitos also left a runner on third in the 12th inning.

Charger pitcher Misty Lauby struck out five in pitching her fifth shutout. A sophomore, Lauby has pitched more than 60 innings without allowing an earned run.

Los Alamitos pitcher Carrie Dolan struck out 10.
