San Gabriel Valley : Transportation for Disabled
Regional transportation officials in Pomona on Thursday dedicated a $1.3-million pilot program designed to help the severely disabled travel throughout 15 cities in the eastern San Gabriel Valley, downtown Los Angeles and western San Bernardino County.
The program, called “Metro Access, “ was created in response to the federal Americans With Disabilities Act.
It was set up to serve those who cannot use regular bus service. Rides cost $2 each way.
To be considered as a candidate, potential riders must contact the Transit Store at the Indian Hill Mall, 1460 Holt Ave. in Pomona, or call (800) 827-0829 or, for the hearing impaired, (800) 827-1359.
The service functions primarily in Azusa, Claremont, Baldwin Park, Covina, Diamond Bar, Duarte, Glendora, City of Industry, Irwindale, La Puente, La Verne, Pomona, San Dimas, West Covina and Walnut. Limited access is also available to downtown Los Angeles and parts of western San Bernardino County.
