Rabin Beats Shamir in Popularity Poll

JERUSALEM —
Labor Party leader Yitzhak Rabin is more popular among voters than Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir, according to a Gallup poll published Friday in advance of Israel’s June 23 national election.
A separate opinion poll in the daily Yedioth Ahronoth showed neither the Labor opposition nor Shamir’s Likud party would win a 61-seat majority in the 120-seat parliament, even with the support of their usual allies.
