Two men were killed this weekend when the motorcycle they were on collided with an automobile, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The two were Alfonso Mendoza, 22, of Laguna Hills and Ernesto Arteaga, 26, of Lake Forest, CHP Officer Todd Wise said. Both men were wearing helmets, Wise said.

The accident occurred at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Wise said, when a Corvette driven by Clay Reavis Jr. of Newport Beach collided with the motorcycle.

Reavis, 69, who was driving south on El Toro Road, was turning left onto Montcliff Drive when his car collided with the motorcycle, which was heading west on Montcliff, Wise said.

Both vehicles apparently attempted to avoid the collision, but the motorcycle ran onto the hood of the Corvette and flipped into the air, he said. Mendoza and Arteaga were thrown to the ground.

They died of internal injuries later at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, authorities said.

Reavis was not cited, the CHP said.
