Viacom, HBO Seek Suit Settlement: Viacom and Home Box Office confirmed a report that they are trying to settle Viacom’s $2.4-billion suit against Time Warner’s HBO and American Television & Communications units. Viacom sued HBO and ATC in 1989 in New York federal court, charging abuses of monopoly power and seeking injunctive relief. Representatives of both companies said the discovery process had been dropped and the sides are engaged in “intense settlement discussions.” The lawsuit strained relations between the firms, which are partners in the cable TV network Comedy Central.
