Do you want to ride an elephant, see a llama wear a funny hat, watch tricks performed by pot-bellied pigs, pick up tips from a cat psychologist or talk to an educated parrot?

These experiences will be available to visitors at America’s Family Pet Show, Friday through April 26, at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds in Pomona.

There will be dog and cat shows, a horse exhibit including the Pomona Valley Arabian Horse Club’s annual show and displays of numerous reptiles, rare birds, fish and exotic pets. There will be demonstrations involving turtles, tortoises, miniature horses, police dogs, rabbits, emus and pygmy goats.

Other attractions will include performances by trained birds of prey who fly through hoops of fire, parrots who turn off light bulbs and pick up trash with their beaks, and dogs who scale walls and chase balls over challenging courses.

Celebrities appearing at the event will include Susan Butcher, four-time winner of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, and horse owner Leslie Charleson, who appears as Dr. Monica Quartermaine on the “General Hospital” television program.

Numerous animal experts will offer advice on the care and offer advice on the care and training of pets.

The show will be open from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 26. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and those in military service, $2 for children 7 to 12 years and free for children 6 and under. Discount coupons are available at pet stores.
