Al (Father) Lewis; Banjoist With New Orleans Jazz Bands

Al (Father) Lewis, 87, who played banjo with some of the greatest New Orleans jazz bands. A big, imposing performer with a joyous personality, Lewis loved to play, sing and entertain. At Preservation Hall, he would surprise the crowd between numbers, handing out such trinkets as balloons and key chains. Lewis played with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the New Orleans Joymakers. On April 12 in New Orleans.
