TV Reviews : ‘3-2-1’ Tells Kids About Environment

Share

“3-2-1 Contact,” the PBS science show for children aged 8 and up, hits prime time Sunday with a pair of back-to-back, half-hour environmental specials: “Our Popular Little Planet” at 7 p.m., followed by “Get Busy: How Kids Can Save the Planet” at 7:30 p.m. (both on KCET Channel 28).

In both, perky teen co-hosts Stephanie Yu and Z Wright offer some horrendous statistics about the overcrowded Earth and its dwindling resources.

Despite the co-hosts’ smiles and the hip magazine format, the most striking images are found in film clips of children around the country who are fighting waste and pollution with every evidence of urgency and commitment. The underlying message is unavoidable: Adults have made a mess of things, and many kids feel they must salvage their own future.
