VENTURA : Woman Sentenced for Conflict Claim

Share

A Ventura woman who filed a conflict-of-interest claim against a county official last year, and who then pleaded guilty to filing false documents to support her claim, was sentenced Friday to 16 months in jail.

Ventura County Superior Court Judge Lawrence Storch pronounced the sentence on Scarlett O’Casey, 47, after O’Casey rejected a sentence proposed by probation authorities that would have included five years of probation.

In October, 1991, O’Casey accused a county probation officer of accepting free legal aid from her ex-husband, a lawyer.

In exchange for the advice, O’Casey said, the probation officer failed to make her ex-husband pay her restitution after he was convicted of spousal abuse.

In pleading guilty, O’Casey admitted to creating and submitting false documents to support her claim.
