Dodger Fans Live Up to His Expectations

Share

Long before I arrived in Southern California for college last fall, I was familiar with the attitude of the typical Dodger fan: late to the games, early to leave, whine if they win and cry if they lose.

Friday, April 17, I saw the Dodgers face the defending National League champion Atlanta Braves. With the score 5-5 in the eighth inning and the heart of the Dodger lineup due up in the ninth, the exits were flooded with fans on their way home. What did these people come to see? Certainly not Darryl Strawberry’s ninth-inning blast to cap an exciting game.

The next day’s Times printed a letter by a Dodger fan crying for more home games on local television. Why should the Dodgers accommodate those who won’t stay at the stadium to cheer them on? It’s too bad for the Dodgers that their fans don’t like baseball.
