El Moro Birding Hike--The Sea & Sage chapter of the National Audubon Society is hosting a five-mile hike through El Moro Canyon to look for birds May 3.

The trip begins at 8 a.m. There are oaks, sycamores and shallow sandstone caves at the hike’s destination point, 2 1/2 miles into the canyon.

Bird species that have been spotted in the canyon in the past include phainopepla, blue grosbeak, lazuli bunting, orange-crowned warbler and Cooper’s hawk.

The canyon is part of Crystal Cove State Park, north of Laguna Beach behind the El Moro Trailer Park on Coast Highway.

Participants should be prepared to pay a $5 parking fee at the canyon’s parking lot.

Wetlands Tours--Guided public tours of the Bolsa Chica wetlands will be held Saturday. The tours, sponsored by Amigos de Bolsa Chica, will depart every 20 minutes or so from the wetlands’ ecological reserve, beginning at 9 a.m. The last guided tour will leave at 10:30 a.m.

Those who would like to take the tour are asked to meet at the ecological reserve on Pacific Coast Highway, half a mile south of Warner Avenue, across from Bolsa Chica State Beach.

Upper Bay Tours--A naturalist-led walk of Upper Newport Bay Regional Park and Ecological Reserve will also be held Saturday.

The walk begins at 9 a.m., and there is a $2.50 fee. Those who would like to participate are asked to meet at Back Bay and Eastbluff drives in Newport Beach. For more information, call (714) 640-6746.
