VENTURA : Little Enrollment Change Expected

Share

Ventura Unified School District officials said Tuesday that there will be little change in enrollment numbers at the city’s two high schools when new school boundaries take effect in September.

The boundary changes--unanimously approved by the school board on March 10--for the most part will not affect students now enrolled at Ventura and Buena high schools, said Arlene Miro, the district’s administrative services director.

Under the new boundaries, students who live in the Montalvo area will be moved from Buena to Ventura high school. The school board said the new lines would balance enrollments and better prepare the district for predicted growth in east Ventura.

Miro said students already enrolled in high school who want to remain at their campus will have the option of staying. But they will not be allowed to use school bus transportation, she said.

Beginning with next fall’s freshman class, all students will be required to abide by new district boundaries and attend the high school designated for their neighborhood.

Buena has 2,103 students enrolled this year, and Ventura has 1,786. Projected enrollments for the 1992-93 school year are 2,201 at Buena and 1,797 at Ventura, according to a staff report delivered to school trustees Tuesday evening.

The board asked district officials to prepare the report after it voted last month to make the boundary changes.
