Planner to Join Palmdale Council

The Palmdale City Council this week appointed city Planning Commission member Teri Jones to fill a council vacancy created in the municipal election last month. Jones, owner of a real estate office and past president of the city’s major homeowner group, will fill the remaining two years in the term of Jim Ledford, a councilman who was elected mayor April 14.

The council voted 4 to 0 to appoint Jones, effective May 14. At that time, council members said, they also will fill Jones’ seat on the Planning Commission and that of David Myers, another commissioner who was elected to the council in April.

Jones is expected to solidify a pro-homeowner majority on the council that resulted from last month’s election in which two incumbents left office. Council members could have called a special election for Jones’ council seat, but objected to the estimated $45,000 cost.
