Daniel Bernardo Ramos, who caused an estimated half-million dollars damage by spraying his “Chaka” tag across California, wants to attend college and enter the mainstream (“Tagger Chaka Is Going Hollywood,” Times Valley Edition, April 19).
Outstanding. We need to heal the causes of our crumbling society and create hope for our young that they may be included in the American Dream. I hope young Daniel crafts his part of that dream.
Equally as important, responsible society must not reward criminal behavior. Graffiti vandalism is filth. Its artistic benefit escapes me.
Now, I learn that Columbia Television is considering a documentary. Ultra Graphics in Hollywood is interested in making autographed lithographs of the Chaka tag and selling them for $100 each. T-shirts are next.
Think of the logic: how vandalism leads to financial success and fame. What a great message to send to our young.
Why stop there? Why not find the most prolific gangbanger and set an example of how murder leads to money and fame.
