Davey Allison won the second race of the 1992 International Race of Champions series by one-quarter car length in a four-wide finish at Talladega, Ala.

Allison, an IROC rookie who was back in the pack of the 11-man all-star field early in the 38-lap, 101.08-mile race, came on to take the lead on lap 29.

With 300 yards to go, Allison was side-by-side with Harry Gant, Davy Jones and Dale Earnhardt, with Rusty Wallace and Ricky Rudd just behind.

Jones and Gant touched and slowed just a bit and Earnhardt dived toward the bottom of the banking in a last-ditch effort to catch Allison, who held on to win by about three feet.

Earnhardt leads Allison in the season standings, 43-36, followed by Rudd with 34 1/2 and Gant at 25 1/2.
