Rain Falls in Some Areas of County

A summer-like storm front from Mexico moved into San Diego Tuesday, draping large gray clouds over the county and dropping small amounts of rain in the mountains and deserts, the National Weather Service said.

There is a 20% chance of thunderstorms and showers today, but, in all likelihood, most of the rain will fall in the mountains, said Wilbur Shigehara, chief forecaster in San Diego.

The cloudy skies blended with warm temperatures on Tuesday, with high temperatures peaking in the 70s in most of the county, Shigehara said. The unseasonably high temperatures--Lindbergh Field’s high of 72 on Tuesday was 4 degrees above normal--and cloudy skies fit a weather pattern that usually occurs in the middle of the summer, Shigehara said.

Moisture from Mexico usually heads north into San Diego in late June or July, the forecaster said.

“It seems like we have skipped spring,” Shigehara said.

Mostly cloudy skies are expected until Thursday morning, Shigehara said.

High temperatures in the 70s and lows near 60 degrees are expected today. On Thursday, partly sunny skies are expected as the weather begins to warm up for the weekend, Shigehara said.
