Share

Music, dance, poetry and art from the Andes and Mexico will be featured at the second annual Festejando a las Madrecitas at noon Saturday at Holiday Park in Carlsbad.

Admission to all events is free, and festival-goers are invited to bring picnic lunches. Traditional Latino food will also be sold by local restaurants throughout the afternoon.

The festival will feature the music of Dulchicella, a six-member band from Ecuador that plays the music of the Andean mountain people. The group will also display arts and crafts from the area.

Music from Mexico will be represented by the Mariachi Latino San Diego, which performs regularly in San Diego’s Old Town.

Traditional dances will be performed by a number of local dance groups, and local Latino artists will decorate the park with traditional designs and display their work. Children will be treated with a clown act by Maliki and Paquin.

The fiesta is sponsored by Carlsbad Arts Associates in cooperation with the Communidad Latina Para las Artes. Additional support has been given by the Carlsbad Arts Office.
