Pop Album Chart : Def Leppard Still the King

Share

Def Leppard claims the top spot on Billboard magazine’s pop album chart with “Adrenalize” for the fifth straight week. But the Leppards are looking over their shoulders waiting for the next surge by Garth Brooks, whose “Ropin’ the Wind” climbed two notches to No. 5 as “No Fences” leaped from No. 15 to No. 7. Fast-risers: Weird Al Yankovic’s “Off the Deep End” (No. 17 after three weeks) and George Strait’s “Holding My Own,” No. 33 in its second week. Kris Kross’ “Jump” is the No. 1 pop single for the fourth straight week.

* Pop-folk singer Tracy Chapman, famed for her glum but insightful songs, entered the chart with her new album, “Matters of the Heart,” at an unimpressive No. 57.
