A woman’s body was found floating in the surf at the southern end of Coronado Thursday, sparking the second death investigation in a week in the quiet Navy town.

A fisherman noticed the unidentified body in the ocean near the southern end of the Silver Strand, just north of the Imperial Beach city limits, around noon, James Adams of the Coronado Police Department said.

Police described the dead person as a “young Caucasian female” but provided no additional identification. Police and passers-by pulled the body to shore. The death is being investigated by Coronado police and the county Sheriff’s Department homicide unit.

In the other recent incident, the decomposing torso of a 79-year-old Chula Vista woman was found in a plastic bag on a strip of grass in the 500 block of C Avenue April 30. The woman’s caretaker, 60-year-old Mary Louise Asbury, was arrested Tuesday in connection with the slaying.
