BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Parrish Benched by Bone Chips

Share

A CAT scan Thursday found bone spurs in catcher Lance Parrish’s right elbow, sidelining him for at least a week. He will be put on the disabled list if he doesn’t show improvement with therapy and medication, Manager Buck Rodgers said.

John Orton, who missed most of spring training because of an injured right rotator cuff, only recently began to catch every day for triple-A Edmonton and is not ready for a promotion. Mike Fitzgerald will continue to catch most of the games during Parrish’s absence, with Ron Tingley scheduled to play this weekend against Toronto.

Pitcher Don Robinson was eligible for reactivation but remained on the disabled list because he has a stiff back. He didn’t throw Wednesday or Thursday and said he thought the cold weather on the Angels’ recent trip--and the long plane ride back to California--caused the problem.

Second baseman Bobby Rose, who missed Wednesday’s game because of a sore back, felt well enough Thursday to skip X-rays but he wasn’t in the starting lineup. . . . John Morris is nearly ready to return after missing two games because of tightness in his chest.
