Pitcher Neal Heaton of the Kansas City Royals was suspended for five games and outfielder Albert Belle of the Cleveland Indians was suspended for three games for their participation in a bench-clearing brawl May 4.

Both players immediately appealed the penalties imposed by American League President Bobby Brown, delaying the suspensions from taking effect.

Catcher Gilberto Reyes of the Montreal Expos, a former Dodger, who completed his drug rehabilitation program last weekend, refused assignment to the minor leagues and elected to become a free agent.
