BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Heaton and Belle Get Suspensions
Pitcher Neal Heaton of the Kansas City Royals was suspended for five games and outfielder Albert Belle of the Cleveland Indians was suspended for three games for their participation in a bench-clearing brawl May 4.
Both players immediately appealed the penalties imposed by American League President Bobby Brown, delaying the suspensions from taking effect.
Catcher Gilberto Reyes of the Montreal Expos, a former Dodger, who completed his drug rehabilitation program last weekend, refused assignment to the minor leagues and elected to become a free agent.
