A Northridge woman escaped serious injury Sunday after a traffic accident sent her car crashing 200 feet down an embankment, police said.

May Jang, 43, was plucked by helicopter from the bottom of a canyon in Porter Ranch minutes after the 11 a.m. collision at Tampa Avenue and Hollow Springs Drive, Los Angeles Police Officer Charlton Jackson said.

Jang, who suffered a broken shoulder, was treated at Granada Hills Community Hospital, Jackson said.

Jang was making a left turn onto Tampa Avenue from Hollow Springs Drive when her car was hit broadside by a car driven by Christopher Lufrano, 18, of Northridge, Jackson said.

The collision forced Jang’s car to swerve off the road, Jackson said.

Jang managed to keep her car upright as it crashed down the hillside before flipping over on its roof and settling near the canyon bottom, he said.

Lufrano suffered minor injuries, Jackson said.
