No Proceeds for Riot Victims From Kirov’s O.C. Shows

When the Kirov Ballet of St. Petersburg dances at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles May 26-31, $5 from the sale of every ticket will be donated to organizations in the city that are helping to rebuild areas devastated during the recent civil unrest there.

However, when the troupe performs at the Orange County Performing Arts Center May 19-24, there will not be any proceeds to benefit those hurt by the riots, center President Thomas A. Kendrick confirmed Monday.

“We’re a nonprofit organization and we’re presenting (the Kirov) at full risk,” Kendrick said. “There will be a substantial six-figure subsidy required even if every seat is sold.

“Further, our top ticket price is $65, the same as when the Kirov came in ’89. (The Shrine’s) top price is $75. They could give away $5 and still be above our price.”

Specific organizations to be helped by the Kirov in Los Angeles have yet to be designated.
