CALABASAS : Last Hearing Set on School Budget Cuts

Share

Members of the public will have a chance to comment on possible program reductions in the Las Virgenes Unified School District at the last of three public hearings on May 19.

The district has to shave about $500,000 from its $38-million proposed budget for 1992-93, Supt. Albert D. Marley said Monday. During the past two years, the district has eliminated more than $3 million from its proposed spending plans.

District officials are considering increasing class size at all grade levels and eliminating some remedial and athletic programs to achieve the reduction in spending, Marley said. The schedule for middle-school students may also be shortened to five periods from six.

Information about the proposed program cuts and the amount each would save are available from the school district.

The public hearing will begin at 6 p.m. at the district’s Calabasas headquarters. A period for comments from the public will be followed by discussion among school board members, who will vote on the cuts at their May 26 meeting.
