The Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t draft hometown quarterback Dan Marino in 1983 because of unfounded rumors he used recreational drugs while at Pitt, said Chuck Noll, former Steeler coach. Noll acknowledged for the first time that the rumors, which originated in a suburban Pittsburgh newspaper, scared the Steelers away from Marino and led them to choose defensive lineman Gabe Rivera.
