Nolan Paul Jackson Sr., accused of fatally shooting his son last week during a domestic dispute, has also been charged with the attempted murder of his wife, who was severely beaten during the argument.

Jackson, 37, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to the new charge of attempted murder. He also waived a bail review that had been scheduled before Municipal Judge Harvey Hiber.

Jackson, being held without bail, is accused of killing his 18-year-old son, Nolan Paul Jackson Jr., early May 4.

According to investigators, Jackson beat his wife after he violated a restraining order by breaking into her home in the 4600 block of Thorn Street in City Heights.

The younger Jackson was purportedly shot twice in the chest as he attempted to rescue his mother, 34-year-old Beverly Jackson. Deputy Dist. Atty. Kerry Wells has said that Jackson chased and continued to beat his wife after the shooting.

Wells said that Jackson was upset because his wife was moving forward with divorce proceedings.

A new date of June 9 was set for Jackson’s preliminary hearing.
